Resting in and savoring where you are in life right at this very moment is not always easy. The more I have intentionally worked to live in the moment, the more I see the pressure we put on each other to always be thinking of what’s ahead rather than where we are.
When is the last time you asked someone or were asked “Are you enjoying your life right now? Are you resting in and savoring today’s minutes?”
Generally it goes something like this: You are in college and people ask what you are doing when you get out. You are single and people ask when you are going to date. You are dating and people ask when you are getting married. You get married and people ask when you are having kids. You have one kid and people ask when you are going to have another one. You accomplish a big work goal or rank and people ask when you are aiming for your next promotion or rank. We become so focused on tomorrow instead of today unless we intentionally live in the present.
When the questions became too loud, I am going to sit down, soak in the view in front of me and remind myself that I am right where I need to be for today. Goals, dreams and plans are good. But not rushing past the day God has given me today is a gift we too often overlook.
Rest. Savor. Enjoy. Today.
