Immanuel – God With Us. Every time I turn around I am reminded that God is with me. And with you.
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
December inevitably causes me to reflect. How about you? As I begin reflecting back on 2019, I am flooded with memories and events in my own life and in those of my family & friends. And “God with us” echoes in my heart.
Some of you will say it was the best year of your life. And some of you will say it was the worst year of your life. Some received the best health news. Some received devastating health news. Some had a prosperous financial year. Some had a tough financial year. Some brought life into the world. Some had to say goodbye to a loved one. Some got married. Some got divorced. Some watched a prodigal walk away. Some saw a prodigal return home. Some saw their dreams realized. Some saw their dreams seemingly slip further out of reach. Some had a predictable year. Some had an unexpected year.
Whether we feel like we have been trying to keep our heads just above the waves or we feel braver and bolder than ever…God. God is with us. It is His very nature. It is the meaning of His name.
He hears our cries. And hears our laughter. He hears our prayers. And hears our cursing. He hears our words. And He hears our silence. He hears our screams. And he also hears our whispers. He is right there with us. Immanuel. God IS with us.
And I have never been more sure of that.
